Obituary for Kenneth Earl Sloan

Kenneth Earl Sloan, 77, passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 28th, 2024. He was born on August 4th, 1946 in Woodruff, SC to the late Earl and Mina Sloan.


He was retired from Colleton County Recreation. He served in the US Army in 1967 and 1968, and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a crew chief on the helicopters during the Vietnam War. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family.


He is survived by his wife, Dianne Creech Sloan of Barnwell, SC; children Kim Parkins of Union, SC, Daphne (Travis) Hooper of Barnwell, SC, and Michelle (Joe) Handberry of Barnwell, SC; grandchildren Jonathan Parkins of Union, SC, Felicia Parkins of Union, SC, Shelby (Jerred) Burdette of Charleston, SC, Mattison (Clay Hankins) Hooper of Barnwell, SC, Taylor (Daniel) Alexander of Barnwell, SC, Ashton Handberry of Barnwell, SC, and Caden Handberry of Barnwell, SC; great-grandchildren Carleigh Sumner, Mary Chilton Alexander, Margaret Alexander, and Eleanor Burdette; brothers Johnny (Sandra) Sloan of Woodruff, SC, and Ricky (Toni) Sloan of Woodruff, SC; sister Rita (Ed) Mobley of Woodruff, SC, and Sister in Law Amy Sloan; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brothers Erskine Sloan and Gerald Sloan, as well as his sister, Patsy Wood.


A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 1st, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC with Dr. Bart Kelley officiating.
