Obituary for Anne Reynolds Stewart
Anne Reynolds Stewart passed away on October 8, 2015, at the Lexington Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Pineland, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Ida Reynolds, and the wife of the late William Harley Stewart. Mrs. Stewart graduated from Columbia College in 1950. Teaching was her life. She was dearly loved by her students, and she had a profound and lasting influence on their minds and character. During her career that spanned 40 years, she was named Columbia College Teacher of the Year and Personality of the South and had school yearbooks dedicated to her in every school in which she taught. She was a member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church. Surviving are one son, William Reynolds Stewart, and his wife Debbie Whitfield Stewart, one granddaughter, Rachel Stewart Reinders, and her husband Jurrie, and her beloved, loyal caretaker of her horse farm, Herman Lee Johnson, Jr. Her graveside service will be held in the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne Reynolds Stewart Scholarship for Teachers, Columbia College, 1301 Columbia College Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29203 that was established by her students.
