Anne attended public schools in Clemson, SC, where her father was the Dean of Men at Clemson College, now Clemson University. Anne graduated from Winthrop College and taught school in Sumter, South Carolina before she met her husband to be, Tommy, on a visit to Barnwell. After their marriage, Anne became an active member of the Barnwell community. Believing that young children needed to start their education before entering the first grade, Anne started and operated the Mother Goose Kindergarten and made certain that her students were exposed to music, art, creative play and French. Anne was also an entrepreneur. She started and operated a boutique shop selling children’s clothing, gifts and needlework. She and Tommy started and ran an income tax business for over thirty years. Anne was the first woman elected to the School Board in Barnwell and was a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Barnwell County Museum and served as the chairperson for 26 years. Anne was an active member of the Barnwell United Methodist Church where she and Tommy raised their children.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service to celebrate the life of Anne Hagood at the Barnwell United Methodist Church, 236 Main Street, on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 2pm. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the Sanctuary.
