Obituary for Ashley Austin Witherspoon
Ashley Austin Witherspoon passed away Friday September 23, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 28, 1974 in Paducah, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Rhonda (Wayne) Smyly of Barnwell and Greg Austin of Chapin, SC. Ashley graduated from Barnwell High School in 1992 and continued her education at the University of South Carolina-Aiken where she obtained her Associate Degree in Clinical Nursing. She began her nursing career at Barnwell Family Medicine in Barnwell, SC. Upon relocation to Irmo, SC she was employed by Carolina Allergy and Asthma and most recently by Lexington 1 School District at River Bluff High School. Ashley was a devoted wife and mother. Ashley had a gift of loving others and passion for taking care of anyone she met. Her radiant smile would light up any room and her laugh was contagious. She was the most giving, kindhearted and compassionate person you would ever meet. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. The visitation will be held at Mole Funeral Home on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. The services will be held at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Dr. Will Browning. Interment services will be held at Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include her loving husband, Jim Hugh Witherspoon III, sons, Austin Michael and Banks Christopher Derrick all of Irmo; parents, Rhonda (Wayne) Smyly of Barnwell and Greg Austin of Chapin; brother, Blake (Lindsay) Austin of Barnwell and step brother, Chandler Smyly; nephews, Cameron and Cayson Austin of Barnwell; In-laws Jim and Melodee Witherspoon of Barnwell; sister-in-law, Melodee Anne (Luke) Dolan of Greenville, nieces, Elizabeth and Caroline Dolan of Greenville and nephews, John Thomas and Zachary Dolan of Greenville; paternal-grandparents, Barbara and Charles Austin of Metropolis, IL. She was predeceased by her maternal-grandparents, Merlene and Ronald Sumner of Metropolis, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established: Ashley Austin Witherspoon Memorial to be sent to First Citizens Bank 10355 Dunbarton Blvd., Barnwell, SC 29812.
