Obituary for Betty "Sue" Collins Johnston
Betty “Sue” Collins Johnston, 73, of Barnwell, SC, passed peacefully in her sleep on October 24th, 2022. Born July 3rd, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Fleming Wright Collins Sr. and Mary Hunter Collins.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford John Johnston of Barnwell, SC; son John Clifford (Grace) Johnston of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter Angela Francine (Lee) Shafer of Stow, Ohio; brothers F.W. (Marie) Collins Jr., Bob (Gwen) Collins, and Christopher Collins; sister Janice (Riley) Collins Grubbs; and grandchildren Parker Johnston, Hudson Johnston, and Amanda Shafer. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Vojtech.
Sue was a gentle soul with a devotedness and selflessness hard to match. She was tenacious, tireless, kind, thoughtful and loving. She was a woman of faith with a servant’s heart and the ability to love unconditionally. To many in the community, she was lovingly “Ms. Sue.” Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her “NaNa.” Most of all she cherished her time with her husband, with whom she recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Along with her abundant stories, her family will miss her kindness, her strength, her hugs, and all her “I love you’s.”
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Barnwell First Baptist Church, with Dr. Steve Burnette and Rev. Lee Clamp officiating. Burial will follow at Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery (Airport Cemetery). The family will receive friends before the service from 9:30 – 11:00AM, at Barnwell First Baptist Church.
