Obituary for Caleb Landon Griggs

Caleb Landon Griggs, 22, born in Augusta, GA on March 27th, 2002, passed away at his grandparent’s house in Barnwell, SC on Sunday, November 17th, 2024. His parents are Michael Brown of Barnwell, SC and Haley Griggs of Aiken, SC.

Caleb enjoyed the beauty of nature, the picturesque mountain views, and the solace of the beach. He loved his annual Brown Family beach trips to Edisto Beach. Caleb had an immense talent for photography. He loved fishing, cars, and random camping trips. He loved Grandmomma’s cooking, especially her chocolate chip cookies. And like his grandmomma, he loved to cook and often learned recipes from her. Caleb loved his family and friends immensely. He always made time and the effort to spend holidays with both sides of his family. Caleb loved Barnwell, and his favorite weekend was the Browning Christmas Party. Caleb was such a good cousin, cried every time he held a new baby, and all his littles are going to miss their “Bubbies.” Caleb loved the color purple, always brightened up any room he entered, and his absence will be profound.

Caleb is survived by his parents, Michael Brown of Barnwell, and Haley Griggs of Aiken; grandparents Steve and Dianne Brown of Barnwell, and Roy and Lisa Fields of Aiken; great-grandmother Vicki Mockel of Florida; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Clayton Griggs of Aiken, Chelsea Large, Cayden Burkhart, Everton Large, and Lawton Large of Aiken, Matthew (Ashley) Fields and Natalee Fields of Aiken, Seth (Tina) Fields, Rowan Fields, Sawyer Fields of Tennessee, Glen Browning III of Barnwell, Lindsey (John) Hutchinson, Luke Hutchinson, and Jolie Hutchinson of Hilton Head, Charlotte Brown and Leah Brown of Columbia, Shelly (Michael) Miller, Noah Miller, and Ian Miller of Irmo, Thomas (Tiffany) Brown, Tanner Brown, Tucker Brown, and Tinley Brown of Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandparents Glen Browning, Percy and Alma McCants, and William and Betty Coates Brown; aunts Patty Browning and Jennifer Kritch; uncle Matthew McCants; great-uncle Daniel McCants; cousins Oliver Large and Mallory McCants, as well as many extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 24th, 2024 at 3:00 PM at 802 Fuller Pond Rd. Barnwell, SC 29812.

Caleb struggled with epilepsy and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation (www.epilepsy.com) in Caleb’s honor.
