Obituary for Carolyn Machos Hastedt
A longtime resident of Barnwell County, Carolyn Machos Hastedt, 82, of Martinez,, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 14 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Carolyn on Friday, September 20, at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Barnwell, SC with Fr. Wilbroad Mwape presiding. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 AM. The family will also receive friends at the home of Matt and Cindy Williams, 400 North Bartow Avenue Swansea, South Carolina on Thursday, September 19 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Mole Funeral Home of Barnwell, SC is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn was born on September 10, 1937 to Carroll and Josephine Machos in Bryan Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Williams and son-in-law Matthew of Swansea, SC, grandson Evan Williams of Westerlo, NY, brothers Carroll (Cookie) and Ronnie Machos. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell A. (Buck) Hastedt and sister Sandra Reed.

Carolyn grew up in Texas and moved to Barnwell, SC in 1962. She was employed by Shuron/Textron and the City of Barnwell. Carolyn loved playing bridge, square dancing, and following the Clemson Tiger football team at home and on the road. She was a faithful member of St. Andrews Catholic Church where she served on the Ladies Guild. Carolyn moved to Elmcroft Assisted Living in 2016 and was a very active part of the community participating in devotions, outings, and even served on a committees to improve the quality of life there.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Elmcroft Senior Living in Martinez, Georgia for making Carolyn’s last years on this Earth meaningful and productive. She truly felt loved because of extraordinary work of some very special caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Central Savannah River Area 516 West Avenue North Augusta, SC 29841, or St. Andrews Catholic Church, 110 Madison Street, Barnwell, SC 29812.
