Cecil “Jerry” Creech, 76, returned home Monday, June 26th, 2023 surrounded by family at the family home.
Jerry was born on October 18th, 1946 in Barnwell County, South Carolina to Cecil Furman and Mary Rebecca Creech Baxley.
Jerry served with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Japan with the Postal Unit during the Vietnam War. After serving his country he began a career with the railroad, retiring from Norfolk Southern as a conductor. While with the railroad, he served as the UTU 0793 Local Chairman. He was a member of the Grand Association of Veteran Railway Employees Chapter 2, Columbia SC.
Always active, Jerry served as a volunteer fireman in Edmund community, Youth/Awana leader, special needs bus driver, assisting students with job programs for students in Lexington District 2, and choir member at Dunn’s Chapel in West Columbia, SC.
Jerry married Gail Still on January 31st, 1970. They were each other’s lifelong companions, raising three children and welcoming eight grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; children Todd (Renee) Creech, Tonya (Jason) Estes, and Ty (Jennifer) Creech; grandchildren Denise, Sarah, and Ethan Creech, Trever Daniel Sulser Jr., Emily Sulser, Ryan Estes, Hannah and Lydia Creech; sisters Bonnie Ray, Ann Padgett, and Brenda Owens; as well as his brother, Glen Creech.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy Creech.
Jerry will be forever remembered for his strong Christian faith and witnessing to others, his love of storytelling, dedication to country and love of family.
Visitations will be held on Friday, June 30th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, SC, and Saturday, July 1st, at 10:00 AM at Dunn’s Chapel. Funeral Services will follow Saturday’s visitation at 11:00 AM at Dunn’s Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Friendship Baptist Church or Dunn’s Chapel, 281 Chapel Road West Columbia, SC 29172.
