Obituary for Donald R. Edwards
Donald R. Edwards, 91, of Barnwell, SC, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Aiken, SC.
He was born September 16, 1929 in Warren, Arkansas to Clyde and Inez Williams Edwards. Donald moved to Granite City, IL in 1931, where he married Betty Turnbull on February 3, 1949 in Granite City. He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Edwards, of 72 years, and their three children Trina (William) Reynolds, Don (Cindy) Edwards, and Carol Edwards Summey. Surviving also is his sister, Jackie (Allen) More. Grandpa Don loved his 13 grandchildren, 24 great grands, and 5 great-great grands.
Don was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic and a Flight Engineer in August 1969 with over 20 years of active duty. He was Baptist in Faith and a member of Hilda Masonic Lodge #426 and El Bab Shrine Club of Omar Temple Shriners International. He was a retired Baptist Minister and a graduate of South Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983, serving as Pastor of Govan Baptist Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roundo, SC, and Calvary Baptist Church in Neeses, SC.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11:00AM in the Olar First Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Dean Deer officiating. The service will include Military Funeral Honors by the U.S Air Force and Full Masonic Rites. The family will greet friends following the service. Serving as pallbearers are, Michael Parnell, Michael Hutto, Bobby Reynolds, Billy Reynolds, James Williams, Robert Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Williams and his son Timothy Edwards.
