Obituary for Dorothy Sonia Palesty Vitanza
Dorothy Sonia Palesty Vitanza 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 1, 2019 at the Pruitt Long Care Facility in Orangeburg SC.
Ms. Vitanza was born in Manhattan NY. On Oct. 30, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Nikolaos Palesty and Mary Valavan Palesty. She was a seamstress and made her own clothes in her father’s Tailor Shop in New York City, she worked for Macy’s Department Store in New York City and Horn and Hardart Automat Restaurant. She was a proud owner of an Italian American Delicatessen. She retired in 1954 and became a housewife raising her three children. She lived in Manhattan, The Bronx and Long Island and moved to South Carolina in 2008 where she lived with her daughter and son in law Elvira and Chris Andrews. They became her caretakers in her sickness, dedicating themselves to making her healthy and happy.
Ms. Dorothy was proud to be a United States Citizen and loved her country. She had utmost respect for the American Flag always making sure it never touched the ground. She honored those who served our country and loved to see a sailor in uniform. She loved gardening, cooking, eating and finding anyway she could to eat cake, family gatherings, sewing, and her pets. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandson. She missed her family dearly.
She had dementia that took her from our hearts but we became close companions and loving friends. Dorothy had the brightest smile and a good sense of humor. She made sure everyone around her was content. She had a heart of gold full of warmth and sincerity. She was a communicant at Holy Family Traditional Roman Catholic Church of Summerville SC and St. Andrew Catholic Church of Barnwell SC.
Survivors include her three daughters Mrs. Barbara Moore, Mrs. Elvira Andrews and Ms. Elizabeth Vitanza; two grandchildren, Jessie Noel Baerga and Serina Dawn Baerga and a great grandson, Gavin Luis.
A Requiem Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel, A visitation will be held at 10:00AM at the Funeral Home prior to the service. Graveside services will be held following the Mass at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. A reception will be held at Mole Funeral Home following the graveside.
