Dottie Amburgey Hays, 91, passed away at her home on July 2nd, 2025. She was born on February 12th, 1934, in Mallie, Kentucky to the late Verda Hammonds Amburgey and Wiley Amburgey.
Dottie married Harmon Hays August, 20th, 1949 and spent a wonderful life together for 75 years and 10 months. Dottie (Mom) was a kind and caring soul who always had a smile to share. She was a homemaker, seamstress, and a wonderful cook who put her unique special care into everything she did. She was a shining example of what unconditional love is during all her years of raising her children and caring for her husband. Dottie (Mom) absolutely loved searching for antiques and collectibles with her husband Harmon. She and Harmon (Dad), spent summers in Waynesville, NC where her children and extended family often visited. She could often be found reading her scriptures and other devotional texts. Dottie (Mom) left us with a lifetime of special memories. She will be missed and will always be with us in our hearts and minds.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years & 10 months , Harmon N. Hays; son Keith H. Hays; daughter Karen (Robert) Riss; grandchildren Trenton K. Hays, Jason T. Hays, Jonathan Mack Printz, and Amanda Hays; great-grandchildren Justin Durden and Tyler Durden; great-great grandchild Elijah Charles Durden; sisters Linda (Gary) Cantrell and Lottie (John) Caughman; and brother, Earl (Barbara) Amburgey.
She is preceded in death by her sons; Mack Randall Hays and Jack Kenneth Hays; brothers Berkley Amburgey and Barkley Amburgey; as well as her sister, Lelah Amburgey Litteral.
She was blessed to have the following care givers who became her close friends: Skylar Pacheco, Tita Duran Albano, Abigale Scarlet Joyce, Rachel Osborn, Debra Ruth, Sabreana Smith, Betty (Sue) Goodnight, and Andrea Siegel.
A visitation will be held at 2:00PM at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church, with Funeral Services following at 3:00 PM, on Friday, July 11, 2025. Dr. Brandon Sandifer will be officiating. Graveside service will follow at the Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery.
