Obituary for Dr. Michael Anthony Worrell
Dr. Michael Anthony Worrell, Ph.D., died Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Barnwell at the age of 63. Michael was born in Kansas City, KS August 24, 1953 and was raised in Miramar, FL where he graduated from Miramar High School. He attended Florida State University, The University of Florida, and The University of Nebraska where he received his PhD in Animal Science. Michael and his wife Becky moved to Barnwell in 1985. For 16 years Michael worked as a research scientist for the Clemson Edisto Research and Education Center studying ruminant nutrition. During his tenure, Michael took sabbatical leave, and he and his family spent six months in New Zealand where he studied grazing and grass science. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Michael left Clemson in 2001 when he and Becky began MiBek Farms. MiBek Farms was well known in SC and reflected the family's high standards of caring for the land, the cattle, and the customers they served. Michael was predeceased by his parents Noel David Worrell and Marie Cavendish Worrell. He is survived by his wife Becky, daughter Kelsey of Barnwell, and son Garrett of Florida; brother Noel David Worrell, Jr. of Gulf Port, Mississippi; sister Pam [Bill] Black of Naples, FL; sister Barbara [Mike] Murphy of Marco Island, FL. Visitation and Funeral services will be held at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Barnwell, SC. Visitation will be at 2 PM Sunday October 9, 2016. Due to Hurricane Mathew and travel considerations, services will be delayed until the following Sunday October 16 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, PO Box 207, Barnwell, SC 29812.
