Obituary for Ellen Horton Reed
Mrs. Ellen Horton Reed, 79, wife of Rev. Rubert Reed passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Laurel Baye Healthcare Center, Blackville SC. Mrs. Reed was born in Swords Creek VA. On March 18, 1934. She was a daughter of the late Leonard and Grace Whited Horton. She served as a nurse in the US Air Force and formerly lived in Pelzer SC while serving in the ministry with her husband at Tabernacle Baptist Church for 20 years. She was a long time member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church and a Communicant of St James Anglican Church. She was a member of the Blackville Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Blackville First Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Fredrick and Rev Father Russ Reed officiating. Burial will follow at the Barnwell City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until the hour of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307, and the Leonarda's Home of Hope an orphanage in Limon, Honduras, P.O. Box 624, Norge, VA 23127-0624 Survivors include her husband, Rev. Rubert Reed of Blackville; son Russell (Teresa) Reed of Blackville; daughters, Jill (Jim) Harris of Burke VA., Tami (Dennis) Woodrum of Easley and Belinda (Robbie) Davis of Pelzer; grandchildren, Collin (Shannon) Reed, Whitney Reed, John Martin Reed, Lyndsey Stone, Layne Stone, Daniel Woodrum, Rachel Harris, Jimmy Harris, Christopher Davis, and Heather Davis; great grandchildren, Jackson Reed, Olivia Reed, Kailee Harris, Ethan Harris and Cade Brown; brothers, Curt and Joe Horton and sisters Claudine Culbertson, Ginny Titus and Betty Ginther. She was predeceased by her brothers, Haskell and Les Horton and sister, Lorraine Liesenhoff.
