Obituary for Elmina Black Singleton
Elmina Black Singleton, 90, formerly of Barnwell, SC, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014 at her home in Wake Forest, NC. "Mina" was born in Williston, SC on April 18, 1924 to the late Edward and Elmina Black. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, John J. Singleton, her son J. Robert Singleton and his wife Nancy, and her grandson Christopher Singleton. She is also survived by her sisters Nancy Hall of Rock Hill, SC and Louisa Jackson of Kingsport, TN, and her brother Wallace Black of Louisville, KY. After earning a degree in Education from Lander University, Mina taught Elementary School in the South Carolina towns of Abbeville and Summerville and in Fairfax County, VA. Upon their retirement, John and Mina settled in Barnwell, SC and became active members of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. She was a member of Young at Heart, the Thelma Smoak Sunday School class, the Woman's Missionary Union and the Bible Study Group. She was also a member of the Barnwell Garden Club and gave numerous presentations over the years about gardening and growing flowers, particularly her beloved daylilies. Mina will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her service to her church and community, and most of all for her kind and compassionate heart. Her family will receive visitors at Mole Funeral Home on Friday, June 13th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 10:00am at Barnwell Memory Gardens on Reynolds Road, Barnwell, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, SC.
