Obituary for Eugene Mayson Easterling, Jr.
Eugene Mayson Easterling, Jr., formerly of Barnwell, SC, passed away December 27, 2015 at his home in Rolling Green Retirement Village, Greenville, SC. He was born February 21, 1930 to the late Eugene M. Easterling, Sr. and Mabel Alderman Easterling. He was a 1947/1948 graduate of Dreher High School in Columbia, SC. He attended Clemson University where he was on the 1948 freshman football team. Called to active duty with the South Carolina Air National Guard, he served during the Korean Conflict. After military service, he completed his education at the University Of South Carolina School Of Engineering in 1956. He worked for numerous engineering firms as a professional civil engineer and retired from the Department of Energy at Savannah River Plant. He was active in the SC Professional Engineering Society, the American Legion, and the Lion's Club. He was honored as Lion of the Year. He enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, shagging, square dancing, bridge, and was a fabulous piano player. He was a member of Pebble Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, SC and previously Hagood Avenue Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC. Surviving are his wife of 64 years Martha B. Easterling, a brother William Lee Easterling, and his children, Rev. E. Mayson Easterling, III (Susan) of Travelers Rest, SC, Suzanne E. Barnett (Bill) of Barnwell, SC, Angela E. Rossetti (Bob) of Enfield, CT, Laura E. Brown (Greg) of Greer, SC, and Margaret E. Bruce (Ronnie of Taylors, SC, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Emily Ann Leitner and a granddaughter, Heather Marie Bruce. The visitation will be Wednesday December 30, 2015, 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, SC. Graveside services will be Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Brown Hammett Book Fund, North Greenville University, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, SC 29688 or to a charity of your choice.
