Obituary for Frances Fields Hudson

Frances Fields Hudson, 97, of Barnwell, S.C., went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by family on Thursday, September 21st, 2023.


She was born on her mother’s birthday, August 27th, 1926, to Leroy and Ruby Williams Fields in Snellings, S.C. Frances grew up in the Dunbarton Snelling community and graduated from Barnwell High.


Frances was married to her sweetheart, William “Bill” Hudson, the love of her life, for 49 years until his death in 1995. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all.


Frances was a bookkeeper over the years for Foy’s Farm Supply, Barnwell Seed and Supply, Inc. and Webb’s Concrete.

She loved her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Seven Pines Baptist Church all of her life where she was the treasurer for many years. Frances was a member of the Laura Moore Sunday School class and served on many committees. She shared God’s love by caring for the needs of others.


Frances enjoyed working in her yard, sitting out and enjoying God’s beautiful world and visiting with friends. Her hobbies included sewing for her girls, making ceramics, cross stitching, and reading. Most of all, she loved being with her family.


Frances is survived by her daughters: Gail Hudson Paulk (Wendell), Columbia, S.C., Rita Hudson O’Neal (Jeff, deceased), Lexington, S.C., grandchildren Stuart Paulk (KC) Irmo, S.C., Hope Collins Montague, Lexington, S.C., Alison Hudgins Rumph, John’s Island, S.C., Trey Collins, Lexington, S.C., Blake Collins, Lexington, S.C, nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Sisters by choice are Margie Foy and Carolyn Beck, as well as many nephews and nieces which she dearly loved.


She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Hudson, daughter Wanda Hudson Bennett (Bob), granddaughter, Stacey Paulk Burns, grandson Byron Martin, brothers: Louie, Bernice, Oliver, Hubert, and Roy and sister, Lois Snider.


A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Seven Pines Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM. Graveside will be held at Barnwell County Memorial (Airport) Cemetery. Pastor Mark Watford will be officiating.


The family wishes to thank Generations of Irmo, assisted living, for all of their excellent care during the past five years. Also Three Oaks Hospice and Prisma Health Hospice for the compassionate care given to Frances during the past month.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Seven Pines Baptist Church, 14957 Dunbarton Blvd, Barnwell, S.C. 28912, or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
