Obituary for Frank Pickens Williams Sr.

Frank Pickens Williams, Sr., 87, of Barnwell, SC passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025.



Born in Govan, SC on April 23, 1938, at “Mountain Home”, he was the son of the late Francis Marion Williams and Felma Still Williams and was married to the love of his life, Fay Simpson Williams for 72 years. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, and a friend to all. He was a member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church where he was a servant of God, deacon, member of “The Joy Club”, and church treasurer for many years. He was owner of Williams Farm and Garden for 43 years. Prior to that he worked at Barnwell Seed and Supply. He served in the National Guard for nine years.



He graduated from Barnwell High School, Class of 1956. He served on the Barnwell County Career Center Board and was a member of Barnwell District #45 School Board for a number of years. He served on Barnwell City Council and was a member for 63 years of the Ellenton Agricultural Club where he was a trustee and past president. Mr. Williams enjoyed researching genealogy, and was a published author writing about history, and was an occasional guest columnist for the Blue Fish Digest. He was a well-respected Barnwell Citizen and a true Southern Gentleman and in 2022 was named Barnwell “Citizen of the Year” in Barnwell. He led by example, loved community service and was always willing to support the City of Barnwell. He will be lovingly remembered for his faith in Jesus, dedication to his family, integrity, kindness, wisdom, support of the community, and his involvement in all aspects of the City of Barnwell.



He is survived by his loving wife, Fay Simpson Williams, sons Pickens Williams, Jr. (Emily), Ernie Williams (Pam), Andy Williams (Angela), and Archie Williams; grandchildren Jennifer Benton, James Williams (Beth), Sam Williams (Sarah), Zach Williams, Nathan Williams (Brittany), Brad Williams (Meg), Taylor Kirtley (Adam), Tyler Williams (Taylor), Grace Kelly (Tyler), Shannon Williams (Annie), Carley Williams (Jordan Zimmerman), 18 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Martha Blanks and David Williams, and a number of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jim Williams, and a sister Dixie Quattlebaum.



Mole Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Family visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Reedy Branch Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Reedy Branch Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Barnwell County Memory Gardens (Reynolds Road). Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Friends and loved ones may make donations in memory of Pickens Williams, Sr. to Reedy Branch Baptist Church, 411 Reedy Branch Road, Barnwell, SC 29812.
