Obituary for George Henry Bowers, Sr

George Henry Bowers Sr. 91 of Barnwell died Sunday morning, April 16, 2023.

Funeral services will be conducted graveside, 1 p.m. at Bowers Cemetery, Brunson, SC.  Family and friends are invited to visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20th at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell.


Br. Bowers was born July 3, 1931, in Hampton County and was a son of the late Horace Mack Bowers and the late Artela Terry Bowers. He married Jackie Perry on June 11, 1954. He was predeceased by her, his loving wife of 52 years, along with 6 sisters and 1 brother. He was also preceded in death by his step-grandchildren, Ronnie Owens and Samantha Bowers.

He was a retired maintenance mechanic with DuPont Savannah River Site. He also was an active member of the North Barnwell Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1969.

Br. Bowers will be remembered by many for the telling of his childhood adventures, his famous fried chicken, turkey dressing and for his love of entertaining his family and friends. But most of all, he will be remembered for his great love of his God, Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. He demonstrated this love by regularly sharing in a volunteer ministry for over 50 years.

Surviving are three sons, George Henry Bowers Jr. (Donna) of Pomaria, SC, Michael Perry Bowers (Tammi) of Sycamore, SC, Terry Mack Bowers of Ulmer, SC, one daughter Lisa Still (Philip) of Barnwell, five Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
