Obituary for Grace Jackson Tripp
Grace Maude Jackson Tripp, 85, of Barnwell entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at her home surrounded by friends and caregivers. Grace was born at North Pharsalia NY on June 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Leslie M Jackson and Maude Violet Ellsworth Jackson.She graduated in 1950 from Truxton High School in NY. Grace met her beloved husband Donald R. Tripp when they worked together for the Chesebrough-Ponds Co. of Oriskany NY and married on October 8, 1966 in Oneida NY. After Don went into long haul trucking, he taught Gracie how to drive. She was the first woman in NY state to test for and get a commercial drivers license. They went on the road as a team for 20 years covering the United States and parts of Canada. Their last employment leading in to retirement in 1989 was driving for Chem-Nuclear Systems in Barnwell, SC. Grace enjoyed taking care of her home, gardening, cooking and baking. Grace was also an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She taught vegan cooking classes at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aiken SC where she was a member of several years. She and Don rescued and cared for several dogs over the years that were precious to them. She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, Donald R. Tripp, a baby boy, a brother, Fred Leslie Jackson and a sister, Marion Jackson Underwood.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 9, 2017 at 11:00AM in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Catoe officiating. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to a local SDA church, local ASPCA, or Wounded Warriors.
Survivors include a nieces, nephews and cousins.
