Obituary for Harold W. "Buddy" Meyers, Jr.
Harold W. (Buddy) Meyers, Jr., 60, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019, in his home in Fredericksburg, VA. Born on July 27, 1958, in Seneca Falls, NY, Buddy was the son of Harold W. Meyers, Sr., and the late Alice Bolich Meyers of Barnwell, SC. He was graduated with honors from Barnwell High School in 1976 and from the University of South Carolina in 1981, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
In 1981, Buddy began a career that spanned 36 years as a civilian systems engineer in the Navy by working first at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC. He then accepted a position with Naval Space Command in Dahlgren, VA, transferred to the Department of Homeland Security in Norfolk, VA, and eventually returned to Dahlgren Naval Space Command, from which he retired in 2017.
Buddy enjoyed golf and watching sports, with his favorite teams being the Washington Redskins and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Buddy was also a Civil War enthusiast and attended the Spotsylvania Civil War Reenactment and Living History Weekend every year. He considered his children, Meagan, Emily, and Alex, to be his greatest gifts in life.
Buddy is survived by his father, Harold W. Meyers, Sr., of Barnwell, SC; his daughter Meagan Hall (Zack) of St. Marys, VA; his daughter Emily Meyers of Shenandoah, VA; his son Alex Meyers of Radford, VA; his sister Cissie Walshe (Bill) of Irmo, SC; his sister Elizabeth Meyers of Barnwell, SC; and his nephew and nieces, Xavier Meyers, Katie Walshe, and Madeline Walshe.
A funeral mass, to be officiated by Reverend Wilbroad Mwape, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on June 7, 2019, at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 168 Madison Street, Barnwell, SC. Interment will follow in Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery on Ellenton Street (US 278).
