Obituary for Harold W. Meyers
Harold W. Meyers, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at his home in Barnwell, SC, while surrounded by his family. Harold was born on April 12, 1933, in Geneva, NY, to William and Marion Meyers. He attended Hobart College in Geneva where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in History.
Harold worked at Shuron Optical for 33 years at its plants in Geneva, NY, and Barnwell, SC. He began his career with Shuron as an engineer and was later promoted to Plant Manager of the Barnwell site. Harold was a devout Christian and an active member of St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, where he served in many capacities and ministries. His service included teaching religious education classes, acting as a sponsor of the youth group, participating on the church board, heading the St. Vincent de Paul ministry, providing Holy Eucharist to church members, and visiting and praying with the prison ministry. Harold also participated in all activities of the Knights of Columbus, for which he attained the level of Fourth Degree Knight.
Over the years, in his spare time, Harold enjoyed water skiing, coaching little league baseball, golfing, and playing bridge. He was an avid football and baseball fan and took pleasure in playing gin rummy and watching Jeopardy. Harold said his greatest joy came when he married his wife Alice, and that joy lasted for 49 years, until Alice’s death in 2006.
Harold is predeceased by his loving wife, Alice Bolich Meyers, and his son, Buddy Meyers. He is survived by his daughter Cissie Walshe (Bill) of Irmo, SC, his daughter Elizabeth M. Meyers of Barnwell, SC, and his son, Xavier Meyers (Ashley) of Simpsonville, SC; his grandchildren Meagan Hall (Zack), Katie Walshe, Emily Meyers, Alex Meyers, and Madeline Walshe; and his great granddaughter Kinsleigh Meyers.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at Mole Funeral Home on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 5:30, followed by visitation from 6:00-7:00. A funeral mass, to be officiated by Reverend Wilbroad Mwape, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 2019, at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church, 168 Madison Street, Barnwell, SC. Interment will follow in Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery on Ellenton Street (US 278).
The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of Regency SouthernCare, especially Harold’s nurse Amy Inman and his aide Melisha Frazier. Their constant love and support during Harold’s illness were a true blessing.
While the family welcomes all prayers, privacy at the family home is appreciated at this time.
