Obituary for Homer Clyde McCall
Funeral services for Homer Clyde McCall will be held at 11:00 Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Barnwell Presbyterian Church, with burial at Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery, Barnwell, South Carolina. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Homer died on September 18, 2014. Born in Flat Rock, North Carolina, on August 22, 1934, he was the son of Homer Cleveland McCall and Fair Stepp McCall, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Ernest McCall and two sisters, Mary Sue Anders and Floree Staton, all of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Homer graduated from Flat Rock High School and then served in the United States Coast Guard. He served on the Great Lakes and was a drill instructor in Cape May, New Jersey. While stationed in Cape Vincent, New York, he met and married his wife of 58 years, Kathleen Gregor McCall. After completing his military service, Homer was employed at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina, for 40 years. He also co-founded the Alright Agency and was co-owner with his wife, Kathy, of the Toby Creek Boarding Kennels, both in Barnwell, South Carolina. Mr. McCall was a member of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church where he and his friend, Cliff Gardner founded a bike ministry which provided bicycles for underprivileged children. He was also a member of the Men's Breakfast Group, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years and served with the God's Littlest Lambs ministry which supports Honduran Outreach. As a beloved member of the Barnwell community, where he resided for 52 years, Homer will be remembered for his ever-present and contagious laughter and his love for helping others. Surviving are his wife, Kathy, daughters, Ellen (Kevin) Herman, Barnwell; Suzy McCall, Honduras; Jenny Riley (Gilbert Douglas), Barnwell; and Melanie (Joe) Morris, James Island. Grandchildren, Nathan and Logan Crackel, Shelley McCall, JoJo Morris, and Sarah, Mary, Noah and Lety McCall, and his beloved dog, Buddy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barnwell Lambs and the Barnwell Soup Kitchen, both in care of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church, PO Box 466, Barnwell, SC, the Barnwell County Animal Shelter Foundation, c/o the Property Shoppe, 15 Hugh Street, Barnwell, SC, or a charity of your choice.
