Obituary for Hugh McCorkle Claytor
Hugh McCorkle Claytor, 56, died September 15, 2014. Born March 4, 1958 in Charlotte, North Carolina he was the son of Dr. Philip P. Claytor, II and Marjorie McCorkle Claytor. Graduated Barnwell high school in 1975 and University of South Carolina in 1980. He earned a JD from University of South Carolina school of Law in 1987 where he was first honor graduate and was a member of the Order of the Coif and Order of the Wig and Robe, and received The American Jurisprudence Award for Fiduciary Administration. He recently received the Martindale Hubbell 10 year anniversary award which is the highest possible peer review rating for legal ability and ethical standards for 2004-2014. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Linda Porter Claytor, a son Elliott McRae Claytor, sisters Dottie Jackson (Traye) and Beth Ayers (Stephen) and a brother Philip P. Claytor, Jr. (Kay). He was predeceased by his father and a son, Hugh McCorkle (Corey) Claytor, Jr. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday September 18, 2014 at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, SC. A graveside service will be held at 3:00PM Friday, September 19, 2014 in the Barnwell United Methodist / Episcopal Cemetery at the Church of the Holy Apostles, Barnwell, SC. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Corey Claytor Memorial Scholarship Fund at the GSSM Foundation, Attn: Kim Bowman 1201 Main St.; Suite 2350; Columbia, SC 29201.
