Obituary for James Rodney "Jimmy" Scott III.
James “Jimmy” Rodney Scott, III 74, departed on his heavenly journey on August 5, 2020 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He had resided in Whitten Village now Whitten Center for the past 66 years. He was the only child of the late James R. Scott, Jr., and Ima Diamond Scott. He was born in Barnwell, SC on 11 Oct 1945. Jimmy was born with CP and despite all his difficulties he lived life to the fullest. He was adored by all the Staff and care givers at Whitten Center. He always had a big smile for everyone. Even though he could not speak he developed his own sign language and could communicate what he wanted. He had a job at the Village, he loved the therapeutic horseback riding and trips the Center took him on. He was predeceased by his parents, his grandparents Medicus and Bessie Diamond and Mr. and Mrs. James R. Scott, Jr., his aunts Frances D. Woodward, Esther Diamond, Jennie D. Curlee, Zelma D. Smith and Uncles Barney Diamond, MC Diamond, Jr. and cousins Sara Ann D. Ott, Mary Bailey and Betty Blackmon, and Jan Curlee Cowles. Jimmy is survived by cousins Grover Woodward, Robert (Kris) Woodward, Judi (Jim) McNeely, Robbie (Suzanne) Curlee, Nadia D. (Larry) Bellamy, Lucy Hudson, Jackie English, Nancy (Bobby) Harmon, Katie Diamond. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff and caregivers at Whitten Center for 66 years of wonderful, compassionate, and superb care they provided Jimmy over the last 66 yrs. Especially Dan Boozer, Gretta Richard, Sallie Simmons and Marty Wilbank, also to Dr. Josh Smith and his hospice Team at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Ashley, Stephanie and Jennifer.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 1;00PM in the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Ted Still officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00PM until 12:45PM at Mole Funeral Home before the service.
Due to the current pandemic and the CDC regulations, social distancing and other guidelines will be in place, the wearing of face masks is optional. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery fund in Jimmy’s name.
