Obituary for James Thurmond Moody

James Thurmond Moody, 77, passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2024. He was born in Augusta, GA on October 31st , 1946 to the late James Luther and Amelia “MeMe” Zorn Moody. He attended Barnwell High School and worked as an Air Balance Engineer at the Savannah River Plant. He previously served as a deacon for Seven Pines Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, and Clemson football.


He is survived by his wife, Esther Cooper Moody; children Jimbo (Dana) Moody, Jody Moody, and John Moody; grandchildren Austin (Katelyn) Moody, Josh Moody, Blake (Mindy) Moody, Kristin Moody, Morgan (Emily) Moody, Daisy Moody, Nathan Moody, Savannah (Timmy) Burdette, and Luke Moody; great-grandchildren Bailey Moody, JR Moody, Kaylee Moody, Logan Buxton, Haisley Moody, Lexie Caruso, Belle Bruns, Ava Moody, and Ritchie Moody; brothers and sisters Sam (Sharon) Moody, Sharen May, and Tricia (Sammy) Collins. Also dear to his heart was his dog, Maggie. The family would like to express a special thank you to Amber Polk for her years of love, support, and caring for Pops.


He is preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Amelia “MeMe” Moody, brother, Herbert Wayne Moody, and granddaughter, Hannah J. Moody.


The family will receive friends and family Monday, January 29th , 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 30 th , 2024 at 11:00 AM at Seven Pines Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Watford officiating. Graveside will be held at Barnwell County Memorial Gardens (Airport) Cemetery.
