Jeffrey Lynn Wilterding of Sarasota, FL passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 29th at his home in Sarasota, FL of natural causes. He was 46.
Jeff was a native of Barnwell, SC and a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, George Walling, survived by his mother Brenda Walling Weimorts of Barnwell, his father Jerry Wilterding of Sarasota, his elder brother Noel Wilterding of Highland, CA, his younger brother Ryan Wilterding and his sisters Haley Weimorts Brown and Sarah Weimorts, as well as his maternal grandmother Gloria Carter, his paternal grandmother Patricia Mansell, plus aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
Jeff was happy, having recently toured Iceland, Scotland, and Oslo, Sweden with his sweetheart and traveling companion of many years, Darlene Makker. Jeff and Darlene enjoyed water sports of all kinds, including saltwater and freshwater fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and catamaran rides, while in Charleston, Sarasota, and while traveling to the Caribbean and Mexico. He enjoyed college sports, golf, music, playing guitar, and was an avid collector of fossilized shark’s teeth on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico beaches in Florida. Jeff was also known for his smoking and grilling skills, which delighted those lucky enough to be at his dinner table.
He enjoyed his job and was well regarded at The Resort at Longboat Key. The Resort will be holding a Celebration of Life to be scheduled in the near term.
The visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Barnwell, SC at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 9th, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM. Burial will be at Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery after the funeral service. Please feel free to wear seasonal clothes and colors to the services, as will the family – Jeff would be pleased.
