Obituary for Jessica Lauren Gunnells
Jessica Lauren Gunnells, 29, of Greenville, SC (formally of Barnwell) passed away on October 16, 2022. Jessica was the daughter of Liz Smoak of Barnwell, and Kenny DeMeza of Lexington. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and niece.
Jessica never met a stranger. Her easy-going manner helped her to make friends wherever she went. Throughout her life she enjoyed roller skating, hiking, fishing, writing poetry and her phone. Her smile and presence will be deeply missed by everyone. Jessica endured many trials and tribulations in life that she worked through with the support of her family and friends. She absolutely adored her sons, Dawson and Wyatt. She enjoyed spending time with her boys and making sure they knew exactly how much she loved them.
Survivors include her mother, Liz Smoak of Barnwell, her father and stepmother, Kenny and Heather DeMeza of Lexington, her sons, Dawson and Wyatt. Sisters, Madison (Chris) Able of Aiken and Alexis DeMeza of Lexington. Nieces and Nephews, Emmalynn, Raylan, & Corey Able and Violet Smoak. Grandparents, Mike and Joyce Gunnells of Georgia, Raleigh and Myrtle Smoak of Barnwell, and Dorothy DeMeza of Lexington. Special Aunt and Uncle, Sandra and Jeff Holmes of Greenville. Aunts, Cathy Mathis, Lisa Love, Debra (Rodney) Woodward, sister-in-law, Isabella Spoon of Charleston, Uncle, Timothy DeMeza and numerous cousins. Jessica was predeceased by her stepfather, Lee Smoak, brother, Richard Smoak, maternal grandparents, Dawson and Genevieve Gunnells and Uncle, Brian Smoak.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 at 11:00AM in Green Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Timmy Gunnells officiating. Burial will follow in George’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00AM until time of service. Mole Funeral Home is assisting the family.
