Obituary for John Raymon Johnson, Sr.
John “Raymon” Johnson, Sr. 1941 – 2020. His life was well lived and he was well loved! The Lord called him home after losing a battle with an acute illness on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in his 79th year.This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be sorely missed by his wife and best friend Debra (Lowe) and his children John R. Johnson, Jr. (Janice), Rebecca H. Jones, and Sherwood C. Helmick, Jr.Raymon was born in Estill, SC and joined the US Navy prior to returning to civilian life. He worked for manyyears as an insurance salesman. Raymon then worked at Savannah River Site as an E and I mechanic until his retirement. Witnessing for the Lord was the paramount of Raymon’s life. His ultimate ambition was to win as many souls to the Lord as he could. Raymon never met a stranger and never feared sharing his love for Jesus. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, daddy, and papa to his family. He has been a major presence and the backbone in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Raymon spent his life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving man. He had a beautiful relationship with God and was very blessed with his faith to his dying breath. Raymon was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He also served for a short time at Bethany Baptist Church which held a special place in his heart. He was a proud papa, and cherished his role as Papa to Lisa Thomas (Shane), Karyn D. Johnson, Brittany J. Jones (David), Kaylee E. Jones, Debra E. Miller, Joshua J. Johnson, Sherwood C. Helmick, III “Bubba”, Nicholas S. Jones, Josiah J. Johnson, and Klaytin G. Helmick. He was predeceased by his parents Geddis Johnson and Ellen D. Johnson, his brother Benjamin F. Johnson, Sr. and sister Margie J. Cook He is survived by his loving brothers-in-law Jim Lowe, Albert Lowe (Bonita) and Ralph Lowe (Kathy) and sisters-in-law Carolyn Johnson, Sue Kessler (Larry), Patricia Lowe, Sherry Lowe, Judy Sullivan and Evelyn Garnes.He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank all the health care professionals from TRMC, ARMC and Select Specialty Hospital for their great care in thelast couple weeks of his life and are sincerely grateful.Raymon will be forever remembered for his caring heart, love for the Lord, compassion for others, willingness to help anyone in need and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.All are welcome for visitation to take place at Mole Funeral Home, 9399 Patterson St, Barnwell, on Monday,October 26th from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 27that 11 am. Services will be officiated by Pastor Dean Deer and Robert Altman. Graveside will follow service at Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery (by the airport). Honored to serve as pallbearers are Drayton Gantt,Calvin Coach, Chad Owens, Billy Owens, Edwin Jones, and Eddie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin F. Johnson, Jr and Ricky Sargent. Masks and social distancing are recommended and if you are experiencing any signs of illness, please send your well wishes from afar. Any financial contributions may be made to a local church or the charity of your choice in honor of Raymon’s wonderful life.
