Obituary for Johnny "John" Sanders
Johnny Joel (John) Sanders Sr., 73, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at University Hospital, Augusta Georgia. John was born in Bamberg County on June 8, 1940. He was a son of the late T.J. and Verna Mae Morris Sanders and predeceased by a brother, Thomas Sanders. He was a graduate of The Rutgers School of Banking and retired as Vic President with First Citizens Bank in Barnwell. He was employed as Business Development Officer with Savannah River Banking Company, Aiken SC. He was a US Air Force veteran, served as chairman of the USC-Salkehatchie Partnership Board, and was member of the Barnwell County Rotary Club, Southern Carolina Alliance, and The Barnwell First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Barnwell First Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Clamp and Rev. Keith Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell Co. Memorial Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening at the the Barnwell First Baptist Church from 5 pm until 8 pm. Memorials may be made to the Debt Retirement Fund at First Baptist Church, 161 Allen St. Barnwell SC 29812 or The Savannah River Cancer Foundation, PO Box 3694, Aiken SC 29802. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Sturkie Sanders of Barnwell; son and daughter in law, Johnny Joel and Belinda Sanders Jr.; daughter and son in law, Stephanie and Don Frazier of Barnwell; brother, Donald Sanders of Livingston; grandchildren, Johnny Joel (Tatiana) Sanders III, Mitchell Kory Sanders, Kirsten Paige Sanders, Donald Logan Frazier and Katherine Renee Frazier; great grandson, Tanner Logan Frazier.
