Obituary for Joyce H Croft
Joyce H. Croft, of Barnwell, died Sunday, June 13, at Pruitt Health after a period of declining health. She was 89 years old.
Joyce Pickens Hair was born in Williston to Mary Alberta Bodiford and Clarence Pickens Hair. While in school, Joyce played basketball. She married Franklin Delano Croft of Blackville.
Joyce retired in March from the accounting division of the South Carolina Regional Housing Authority No. 3. Previously, she worked for Grubbs Furniture. She enjoyed her work and her co-workers.
Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends, the beach, shopping, Facebook, a good game of poker, mani-pedis by Heather Connelly, having her hair done by Betty Hogg, new purses and shoes, and the occasional Bloody Mary. She was a fan of Clemson football, Duke basketball and whatever her grandchildren were involved in. She was a lot of fun.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in law: Kathy and Steve Clark of Barnwell, Fran and Laymon Cooke of Barnwell, and Joette and Walt Unks of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren: Joy Kinard of Winston-Salem, Rich Kinard and girlfriend Amy Ellis of Barnwell, Sarah and Jonah Unks of Winston-Salem; four great-grandchildren: Paxton Smith, Peyton and Preston Hartzog and Coehn Kinard. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Pic and Carole Hair of Batesburg, and her sister, Anna Jean Fulmer of Cayce. Joyce also had a loving, involved extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and her sister, Mary Louise “Edie” Whitaker.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel, and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery the Rev. Dean Deer of Calvary Baptist Church and the Rev. Dr. T. Bart Kelley of First Baptist Church will officiate.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Pruitt Health for their exceptional care in the last few weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Carolina Children’s Home, PO Box 4465, Columbia, S.C. 29240 or a charity of your choice.
