Obituary for Judson E. (Jeb) Bennett Sr.
Judge Judson Edward Bennett, Sr. (Jeb) OLAR - Judge Jeb Bennett, 92, passed away on Saturday, September 27th, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Bennett was born in Olar, South Carolina, on September 23, 1922. He was the son of the late James Preston and Susan Bennett. He was Magistrate of Bamberg County from 1974 through 1986. He was appointed Chief Magistrate of Bamberg County in 1986 and retired in 1994. He continued to provide magistrate services part time for Bamberg County for approximately 10 years. Judge Bennett owned and operated Jeb Bennett's drug store, Western Auto, and hardware store. He served his country as a combat veteran in WWII, in the 225th Field Artillery US Army, in the Marianas and Philippines. His unit supported the Marine Corps troops in Saipan, Leyte, and Okinawa from 1943 until the war ended in 1945. He returned to his home town of Olar in 1946, where he met and married his beloved Cecille. He was a loving father and active member of the community serving as Mayor of Olar and Deacon of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 3:00PM in the Olar First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dale Hutto officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Tuesday evening at Mole Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mary Ann Morris Animal Shelter (MAMAS) 254 Slow Pitch Rd., Bamberg SC 29003. Survivors include his son, J.E. (Gail) Bennett Jr. of Ladysmith VA.; daughters Linda Maddox of McBean GA. And Cindy Nitsch of Graniteville SC., grandchildren, Todd Bennett, Michael Bennett and Sara Bennett, great grandchildren, Camden and Megan Mancuso. He was also predeceased by a brother, James Preston Bennett Jr. and sisters, Hazel Marshall, Lazelle August, Ella Elizabeth Browning, Nadine Chitty, and Barbara Sue Wilkenson.
