It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, Karen Milligan, sister to Stephen O’Rourke and friend, who left this world at the age of 64. She had two sons, Kevin Milligan, 33, and Christopher Milligan, 34.
She was the devoted wife of her late husband of over 30 years, Derek James Milligan, whom she loved deeply and missed dearly. Their marriage was built on unwavering commitment, laughter, and a partnership that carried them through life’s joys and challenges. Though she endured the profound loss of her husband, her strength and love for her family remained steadfast.
Above all else, she was a loving and dedicated mother. She is survived by her two cherished sons, Christopher Milligan, 34, and Kevin Milligan, 33. Her boys were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into raising them with kindness, resilience, and unconditional love. She was their greatest supporter, loudest cheerleader, and safest place to land.
She is also survived by her granddaughter, Mckenzie Milligan, as well as her brother, Stephen O'Rourke, with whom she shared a lifelong bond of love and family connection. In addition to her family, she leaves behind many loving friends who will remember her for her warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and compassionate spirit. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome, valued, and cared for.
Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the memories she created, and the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13th, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Beaufort National Cemetery.
