Obituary for Kathryn Jones Claytor-Babb
Kathryn Jones Claytor-Babb, passed peacefully in sleep Friday November 29, 2019 after a long bout with COPD.
Born in Congaree, S.C. on March 14, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Hamilton Jennings and Lois Haskins Jones and grew up in the Lower Richland community. She attended public schools locally and graduated from Lower Richland High School followed by nurses training in Columbia. She married Louis Tiffany Claytor Jr. (Tiff) of Hopkins, SC in 1950. Kathryn and Tiff moved to Richmond, VA. and began life together. They moved to Barnwell, SC for Tiff to join the initial work effort at the Savannah River “Bomb” Plant. Life continued with three children and a move to their dream home in the woods of Kline, SC.
Kathryn enjoyed a long career with the US Postal Service in several SC Post Offices attaining Officer-In-Charge in Varnville, SC before retiring as Postmaster in Blackville, SC. She enjoyed service with and travel for over forty years supporting the National Association of Postmasters of the US. She participated in many state, regional and national conventions and conferences.
Following the passing of her high school sweetheart Tiff; Kathryn traveled extensively with family and friends. Some ten years later Kathryn Married Theo W. Babb.
Kathryn is survived by three children Louis Tiffany Claytor III (Norma) and Porter Huguenin Claytor (Barbara), of Barnwell, S.C.; and Mary Kathryn ‘Kit’ Claytor Stubbs (Daryl) of Charleston, S.C.; Brother Howard Jones (Ann) and sister Ruth Eleazer (Thomas) of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two nephews; and ten nieces, and many loving great and great great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Louis T Claytor Jr., husband Theo W. Babb, a sister Elsie Jones Whitlock and a brother Hamilton Jennings Jones, and two nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for 12 noon at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell. Graveside Services will follow in the Claytor Family Cemetery within the Episcopal/Methodist cemetery in Barnwell at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019. A visitation/reception will follow in the Episcopal Fellowship Hall.
The family thanks the many wonderful resident friends, nurses and assistants at the Pruitt Nursing Home in Barnwell.
The family request, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to the Church of Holy Apostles, Barnwell, SC or any charity of your choosing.
