Obituary for Laura Oneda Moody
Laura Oneda Moody, 99, of the Big Fork Community in Barnwell County, died on April 3, 2014. The daughter of the late William Henry and Daisy Barker Moody, she was born July 3, 1914, in Big Fork. Undergraduate work at Anderson College, she received the B.S. degree in Nursing from Roper Hospital, Charleston S.C. , in 1940. In 1960 she received the Masters degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. During WWII she attained the rank of Captain in the Army Air Forces Nurses Corps. Discharged from the Armed Forces April 2, 1946, her career in nursing embraced pediatric nursing at Spartanburg Baby Hospital, Saluda N.C. and geriatric nursing in Gainesville GA. She served as nursing consultant for Alabama Nursing Homes. Before retirement she held a position with the Allendale County Public Schools and retired from the Barnwell County Career Center as Health Occupations Instructor. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at Allen's Chapel Baptist Church on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 4:00 pm. Visitation will be held at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Saturday evening, April 5, 2014. A lifelong member of Allen's Chapel, she served many years as church pianist, a Sunday School Teacher and secretary. For the past ten years she resided at Shadow Oaks in Aiken S.C. She was predeceased by three of her four brothers, Robert Henry Moody and Rhett Lloyd Moody of Columbia S.C. and Frank Melvin Moody of Charlottesville VA. Surviving are her brother Ralph Waldo Moody of Big Fork, two nieces Alise Moody Daniels of Columbia S.C. and Elaine Moody Crosby of Mt. Holly N.C.; two nephews Rhett Lloyd Moody of Macon GA. And William Henry Moody of Columbia SC. Shas many cousins and friends, too numerous to name who mourn her passing. Memorials may be made to Allen's Chapel Baptist Church, % Rev.
