Obituary for Lee Smoak
Lee Smoak, 53, passed away peacefully on October 15,2020 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Le was born in Barnwell, SC on June 8,1967, a son of Raleigh Sr. and Myrtle Cole Smoak of Barnwell and the late Brenda Coates Smoak. He was a self-employed roofing contractor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to Edisto, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Barnwell First Baptist Church. Lee had an infectious smile, eyes that light up a room, never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17,2020 at 11 am in the Barnwell First Baptist Church with Pastor Bart Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memory Gardens of Reynolds Rd. Visitation will be held in the Barnwell First Baptist Church on Friday evening from 6-8 pm. Covid restrictions will be observed in the church and cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Road to Freedom Fund, the Barnwell First Baptist Church, 161 Allen St., Barnwell SC 29812, or memorials in Lee’s name to The MUSC Foundation/Hollings Cancer Center, 18 Bee St., MSC450, Charleston, SC 29425.Pallbearers will be James Smoak, Michael Smoak Jim Strickland, Leon Strickland, Tracey Taylor and Steven Redmond; honorary pallbearers will be Robby Sanders, Michael Peters, Jay Folk and Bobby Jordan. Mole Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements
Survivors include his wife, Liz Gunnells Smoak of Barnwell; daughters, Jessica Lauren Gunnells of Snelling, Madison Kristine (Chris) Able of Barnwell; son, Richard Mason Smoak of Barnwell; grandchildren, Emmalynn Able, Raylan Able, Dawson Williams, Wyatt Williams and foster grandchild, Ashley Williamson; sister, Debra (Rodney) Woodward of Appling, GA.; nieces, Kristian Woodward, Kaitlynn (Andrew) Wright; nephew, Keaton Woodward and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Lee was predeceased by his mother, Brenda Coates Smoak, brother, Brian Lee Smoak, maternal grandparents, Cabell and Dolly Coates, Alberta Cole, paternal grandparents, Milton and Reva Smoak, mother in law, Genevieve Gunnells and foster son, Joey Reynolds.
