Lillian Mell Carter Pack, known to everyone as Mell, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 23, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 22, 1949, in Barnwell, South Carolina, Mell was 76 years old.
Mell was the cherished daughter of the late Starling Edwin Carter, Sr. and Emma Brodie Carter. She was married to Stephen Hayes Pack for 52 wonderful years until his passing in October 2020. With the arrival of grandchildren, Mell lovingly embraced the name 'Mimi’.
Mimi was a passionate sports enthusiast and a devoted Gamecock fan. She earned the affectionate nickname 'Mama Mell' as a beloved supporter of the 1989 State Champion Warhorse Golf Team. Once her boys left home, she could often be seen riding on the back of Steve's Harley Davidson, cruising the highways and enjoying life's adventures.
Mell is survived by her three sons: Edwin Joel Pack (Heather) of Aiken, South Carolina; Richard Noel Pack (Erica) of Lexington, South Carolina; and Travis Layfette Pack (Christine) of Greenville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Sydney Pack Lorenzo (Alexander) of Toms River, New Jersey, and Chloe Hayes Pack of Charleston, South Carolina; two grandsons, Brandon Carter Pack of Lexington, South Carolina, and Jacob Camden Pack of Greenville, North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Lilah Jane Lorenzo of Toms River, New Jersey. She is also survived by her brother, Starling Edwin Carter, Jr of Greenville, South Carolina.
Mell is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Cindy Gardner Pack of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Ann Templeton Carter of Greenville, South Carolina; and her nieces and nephews: Misty Pack Skvoretz of Charlotte, North Carolina; Russell Terry Pack of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Starling Edwin Carter III of Greenville, South Carolina; and April Carter Nolan of Greer, South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cumberland Village and Cumberland Hills in Aiken, SC that have taken such amazing care of our beloved Mimi for the past 4+ years.
The family will receive friends at Mole Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025.
