Obituary for Linda Kay Starkey Cheek
Linda Kay Starkey Cheek, 81, also known as “Maas,” “Grumpy,” and “Grandma” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
Linda was born in Danville, Illinois on July 22, 1939 at six months gestation, weighing 2 lbs and was considered a “miracle baby” for that era. She was a daughter of the late Fred J. and Edna Earl Starkey. She was a member of Barnwell First Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She married Noah Franklin Cheek on December 9, 1956. She served the Lord as a church custodian for 15 years, delivered meals on wheels, played various card games with her grandchildren, loved to go on shopping trips, and crocheting afghans for many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Franklin Cheek.
Survivors include, her husband, Noah F, Cheek of Barnwell; daughter, Christine (Stanley) Creech of Barnwell; son, James (Robin) Cheek of Barnwell. Her grandchildren: Raymond (Tina) Creech, Kay (Stephen) Corder, Jessica (James Elkins) Cheek, Stacey (Luke) Catoe, and Joel (Kelsey) Cheek. Her great-grandchildren: Michale Creech, Nathan Simmons, McKynzie Still, Cindi Creech, Cash Creech, Tres Corder, Cooper Catoe, Molly Elkins, Rayleigh Cheek, O’Neil Catoe, and Macyn Elkins. Her great-great grandchild: Waylon Bell.
A graveside Service will take place at the Barnwell United Methodist Church Cemetery in Barnwell with the Reverends Bart Kelley and Matt Thomas officiating on Tuesday, November 24th at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends after the services. Masks and social distancing will be observed at the service and visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 1901, Barnwell, SC or Denmark RA Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 325, Denmark, SC 29042.
