Jimmie Hanks, lifelong resident of Barnwell, has died at the age of 100. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Dumont; two grandchildren, W. Ashley (Donita) Atkins and Jaime Edwards; three bonus grandchildren, Elizabeth Proctor, Katherine Dumont, and Peter Dumont; and two great grandchildren, Braelynn Edwards and Liam Corell. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her parents, Meta and Jim Dicks; two sons, Jimmy Lee and Billy; her sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Billy King; and her son-in-law, Dick Dumont. Almost no one knew that her given name was actually Mary.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 6th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Barnwell Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Judson Barnes officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. At her request, in lieu of flowers, people who wish to remember her may make a donation to a group supporting animal welfare or to the Cemetery Fund at the Barnwell United Methodist Church.
