Obituary for Mary Kathryn Moore Thompson
Mary Kathryn Moore Thompson, 61, of Snelling, SC passed away after a long struggle with Scleroderma. Surrounded by family, she died in San Antonio, TX on September 10, 2014. Kathryn was born on October 20, 1952 in Augusta, GA. She was daughter of the late Elbert Timothy and Ann Foy Moore. Before becoming ill, Kathryn worked as Guest Services Coordinator at the Witte Museum, Administrator at Scholastic Books, and Administrative Assistant for Karen Klein Real Estate in San Antonio. Kathryn was an avid reader and queen of the crossword puzzle. An avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, she followed them to San Francisco, Phoenix, Saint Louis, Chicago, New York, and Montreal. Kathryn loved to travel, visiting England, Scotland, and Ireland. She also traveled most of Western Europe, living in Germany for three years. And she spent ten unforgettable days on the beaches of Fortaleza, Brazil. But wherever Kathryn traveled, Snelling was always home. And spending time with her extended and immediate family was her most important pastime, especially her six grandchildren. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, SC on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00. A funeral service will be held at the Seven Pines Baptist Church in Snelling, SC at 3:00 on Thursday, September 18, 2014 followed by a short graveside service at Seven Pines Cemetery. Reverends Billy Mew and Mark Watford will officiate. Survivors include Kathryn's husband of 44 years, Donnie Thompson; daughters Jennifer Thompson Oyler and Jessica Thompson Villalon; daughter-in-law, Christal Gale Thompson; grandsons, Michael Anthony Thompson, Justin Ryan Oyler, Jeremy Allan Oyler, John Brandon Oyler, Dylan Kurtis Villalon; and granddaughter Mary Emma Villalon. From Moore side of family, Kathryn is survived by one brother, Elbert Timothy Moore, Jr (Scottie) of Snelling, SC and one brother-in-law, George Sanders of Columbia, SC; niece, Tiffany Ann Moore; nephews, Richmond Moore (Parker); Edward Moore (Carla); along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. From Thompson side of family, Kathryn is survived by brothers-in-law, James L. Thompson and Kary L. Thompson (Nancy) of Spartanburg, SC; John K. Thompson (Frances) of Blue Ridge, GA; sisters-in-law, Kathy T.Shaw (Lane) of Alpharetta, GA, Annie Thompson of Charleston, SC, and Ida Thompson of Spartanburg, SC; nephews, Jeff Thompson, Kenny Thompson (Katy), Seth Thompson; nieces, Alicia Hunsberger (Jason), Sara Thompson Cole (Brad), Carrie Ann Sienkiewicz (Scott), and Anna Thompson. As an animal lover, Kathryn is survived by one dog, seven inside cats, numerous outside cats, and two visiting raccoons. Kathryn was preceded in death by son, John Anthony Thompson; mother, Ann Foy Moore; father, Elbert Timothy Moore; sister, Ann Ellen Moore; brother-in-law, Sammie J. Thompson; and nephew, Byran Thompson.
