Obituary for Mary Patterson Roberts
Mary Patterson Roberts, 88, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2021, at her home in Aiken, SC. Born in Columbia, SC, on February 20, 1932, to Robert Walton Pagett and Mary Pierce Patterson Pagett, she resided in Barnwell until her early teens, when she moved to Winston Salem, NC. Mary Pat attended and graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in 1950. Possessed of a wonderful sense of humor and infectious curiosity, Mary Pat was an avid reader who loved to cook. In 1978, she married her soulmate, Richard A. Roberts. Besides Richard, Mary Pat is survived by one brother, Robert B. Pagett (Mary Jane), and half-brothers James R. Pagett (Zarida) and Edward E. Pagett (Cherie). Mary Pat and Richard had seven children between them: Frank L. Montgomery, Jr. (Linda), Robert B. Montgomery (Saundra Tewes), Mark F. Montgomery (Cindy), Richard M. Roberts, Michael J. Roberts (Diane), Patrick A. Roberts (Jennifer Berne), and Rebecca Griffin. She is also survived by twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. A service to honor Mary Pat will be held in Barnwell at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Apostles Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 207, Barnwell, SC 29812.
