Obituary for Michael Gross Jolly Sr.
Rock Hill SC Michael Gross Jolly Sr. passed away Sunday unexpectedly Sunday, Feb.23, 2014. He was born on Feb. 10, 1953 to William "Bill" Jolly and Ann Gross Jolly. He has been a teacher and coach for 38 years in the state of South Carolina in high school and college. He graduated from Denmark - Olar High School and Presbyterian College. He was many things during his career including a teacher, mentor, coach and friend. He never stopped coaching or teaching. He loved many things including sports, history, the outdoors but most of all he loved his family. If you were part of his life, you were part of his family. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He was preceeded in death by his grandson, Brandon Meador Jolly. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Emily Meador Jolly, son, Michael Gross Jolly Jr., and grandsons Matthew Bryant Jolly and Tyson Alexander Jolly, as well as son, Brett Douglas Jolly (Noel) Jolly, granddaughter Layla Catherine Jolly and grandson, Blewer Benson Jolly, and his brother, W. Bruce Jolly (Glynda). A memorial service will be held at Bamberg- Ehrhardt High School gymnasium for current and former athletes and students to celebrate his life and career on Wednesday Feb. 26,2014 at 4:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Thursday Feb. 27,2014 at 11:30 am in the churchyard of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles, 9357 Patterson St. Barnwell SC . In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School Athletic Department at 267 Red Raider Dr., Bamberg SC 29003.
