Obituary for Rebecca "Becky" Jane Outen Givens
Rebecca "Becky" Jane Outen Givens, 70, of Barnwell, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
She was born February 6, 1951 in Lancaster, the daughter of Ralph Emmett Outen and Rachel Sims Woody. She spent her early years in Aiken before moving to Barnwell in the fourth grade.
She was a graduate of Winthrop College with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She dedicated 35 years of service at Milliken & Company in Barnwell. After the closure of Milliken, she finished out her career at MOX Services.
Becky was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her daughter and four granddaughters.
She was a faithful servant to her home church, First Baptist Church of Barnwell. Becky loved working with children and youth, which is why she devoted many years as a Girl Scout leader, recreational cheer coach, and church youth group leader. She always had teens in her home. She enjoyed her calls, texts, and annual trips with her beloved "Circle Sisters", a group of girlfriends she’s had since attending the fifth grade at Barnwell Elementary School.
She was predeceased by her father, Ralph Emmett Outen; mother, Rachel Sims Woody; and stepfather, James Woody.
Becky is survived by her daughter, Hilary (Shane) Hindman of Barnwell; four granddaughters, Rebecca Eve, Mary Kathleen, Olivia Ryan, and Charlie Elizabeth, all of Barnwell; sister, Lynn (Wally) Ward of Bluffton; brother, Emmett Outen of Bremen, Ga.; her aunts, Ethel Buttrill of McDonough, Ga. and Sue (Harold) Parkman of Murrell’s Inlet; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Barnwell First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Bart Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be mailed to the First Baptist Church of Barnwell, 161 Allen Street, Barnwell, S.C. 29812.
