Rev. Gene Long, 70, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, Feb. 10th, 2023.
Gene was born in Barnwell County on March 1st, 1952. He was a son of the late Edward and Leatha Collins Long. He was a former meat cutter for Piggly Wiggly and retired as maintenance supervisor for Barnwell School District #45. He was an ordained Baptist minister and was serving as pastor of Mt. Arnon Baptist Church. He loved and trusted his Lord completely. Gene had a green thumb; he loved music and played the guitar. He loved his trusted companion, his little girl, Marley Elizabeth who traveled with him everywhere.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Mole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Taylor and Rev. Tony Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery at the Airport. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Mole Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Noah Still, Cody Still, Keith Still, Dakota Brown, Mike Jackson and Matthew Thomas. Memorials may be made to The St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela R. Long of Barnwell, daughter, Donna (Mark) Johnson of Statesboro, GA, son, Col. Jason (Heather) Wisham of Austin, TX, grandchildren, Shelbie Marie Johnson, Kallie Elizabeth Johnson, and Parker Wisham. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathy Cheek Long, brothers, Tommy Long, Elwin Long, and Joe Long, and a sister, Janice Wheeler.
