Obituary for Rita Consolie Hegler
Rita Consolie Hegler, 81 of North Augusta, passed away at her home on January 18th after a long illness.
Rita was born on October 5, 1942 to Peter Anthony and Theresa N. Consolie in Geneva, NY. After graduating from Geneva High in 1960, she continued to work at the NY State Telephone Company before moving to South Carolina in 1961.
Once she was settled in Barnwell, SC, she went to work at Savannah River Plant where she was employed for 37 years.
In 1998, Rita retired and spent her time traveling, cooking, shopping and spending time with family and friends. She achieved her goal of visiting all 50 states and enjoyed dozens of cruises.
Rita was a kind and generous soul and enjoyed planning trips and family gatherings. She was a long time member of St. Andrew’s Church in Barnwell and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in North Augusta. She was also a member of the Italian American Club of the CSRA-Augusta and a former member of the GaSCar auto club.
Rita was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Anthony S. Consolie. She is survived by her husband, Thomas D. Hegler, Jr.; sister, Ginny Consolie Lackey; daughter, Susan Hegler Jenkins (Craig); son, John Russell (Noelle); grandchildren, Cameron and Lauren Jenkins, Carson and Sawyer Hegler and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to the nurses from Nuclear Care Partners for the loving care provided and friendships that were formed.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday January 26 at 6:00 pm at Mole Funeral Home, 9399 Patterson Street, Barnwell, SC, followed by visitation at 6:30 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday January 27 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 139 Way of Peace, North Augusta, SC. Graveside Service immediately following at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2648 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Carson and Sawyer Hegler, grandnephews Niles Lewis, and Michael and Drake Mathias, and friend Dennis Villemain.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Andrew’s Church, 228 Madison St. Barnwell, SC 29812 or Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 139 Way of Peace, North Augusta, SC 29841.
