Obituary for Robert "Bob" Simpson Pattillo, Jr
Robert Simpson Pattillo, Jr. (Mr. Bob) entered into heaven on May 28, 2021. Bob was born in Athens, Georgia on October 25, 1934 and was the son of the late Mary and Robert Pattillo. He became a Christian at the age of 13 and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Athens, GA. He was a 1958 graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Management. Bob was an industrial engineer for Milliken for many years and ended his career at Carolina Metals. He also served in the US Army as a staff sergeant.
Bob was known to his family and friends as a quiet humble man who made an immense impact on his family, his community and around the world through his tireless dedication to serving the Lord. His love of travel and his servant’s heart took him on countless mission trips across the US and beyond: to Haiti, Antigua, Nicaragua, and Africa. He worked tirelessly on these trips building churches for communities, houses for the homeless, schools for children with no place to learn, and delivered health supplies to communities in the bush of Africa. He worked with the people of all these communities sharing the gospel and showing the love of Christ to all. In his local community, Bob found ways to serve as a member of the South Carolina Disaster Relief as a Blue Cap, a Red Cross shelter volunteer and was a member of Gideon’s International.
He was a Barnwell City Councilman from 1997 until his death in 2021. He was proud of the accomplishments that took place during his time of service for Barnwell.
While Bob was a quiet man of few words, the impact he made on those who came in contact with him were significant. He enjoyed working with the puppet ministry at FBC Blackville, serving in the Barnwell Community Soup Kitchen, and in the children’s ministry at FBC Barnwell as a Flight volunteer on Wednesday nights. He was also active in the FBC construction ministry and a member of the security team. He enjoyed traveling with his family and the FBS Young at Heart group.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kaye Pattillo of Barnwell, his daughters Kathi Johnson of Spartanburg, SC and Dr. Elizabeth Adkisson of St Louis, MO, his son-in-law Dr. Dave Adkisson of St. Louis, MO and grandchildren, Davis Adkisson and Dr. Amanda Adkisson of St Louis, MO, Mills Johnson of Greenville, SC and Emily Kate Adkisson of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by his brother John Pattillo and his sister-in-law Linda Pattillo of Greer, SC, his niece Pam Willis and her children Drew and Maya of Greer, SC. He is also survived by his adopted Indian family, Yesu, Rachel and Daniel Nathala of Barnwell and his sponsored Ugandan child, Charity Kubasinge.
