Robert “Bobby” O’Neal Morris, 88, passed away on December 12th, 2023 in Lexington, SC. He was born in Barnwell, SC on June 5th, 1935 to the late James Carlisle Morris and Estelle Still Morris.
Bobby played an instrumental role in helping to organize the creation of the Snelling Volunteer Fire Department (Established 1978), creating and getting the Bobby Morris Training Facility at the Snelling Volunteer Fire Department built, to give present and future firefighters a place to gather and train, (2012), and in keeping the Town of Snelling clean and beautiful by performing grass cutting and trash deposal activities. He was the first official Fire Chief for the Snelling Volunteer Fire Department and continued serving as the Fire Chief for 45 years (1978-2023), town of Snelling Council Member (1978-2023), as well as a Retired Deputy for the Barnwell County Sheriff Department.
He is survived by his son, Neal (Rita) Morris of Snelling, SC; daughter Janet M. Creighton of Snelling, SC; son-in-law James Carroll of Barnwell, SC; grandchildren Monica (John) Brewer, Heather Still, Thomas (Angela) Creighton, Shane (Chelsea) Carroll, Ryan Morris, and Tyler (Rebecca) Morris; great-grandchildren Thomas Creighton VI, Ian Creighton, Arwen Brewer, Riley Creighton, Jason Sonder, Harper Leigh Morris, and Blakely Carroll. He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Reder Morris, daughter Carol Carroll, son-in-law Tommy Creighton, brothers Jimmy Morris and Jackie Morris, as well as his sister, Betty Jean Brown.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 16th, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Seven Pines Baptist Church, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM. Graveside will be held in the Seven Pines Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Mark Watford will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Ryan Morris, Tyler Morris, Thomas Creighton, Shane Carroll, Bobby Heltibridle, and Bryan Kinard.
