Obituary for Sara Evelyn Wix Hyrne-Demspey
Funeral service for Sara Evelyn(Wix) Hyrne-Dempsey will be held at Healing Springs Baptist Church on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 PM with burial at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery in Cope, SC. Visitation will be on Thursday evening at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, SC from 6:00 til 8:00 PM. Mole Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. On April 30, 2013, the Lord received another angel unto Him. Sara (Mama Say) as she was known to many, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 30, 2013. She and her twin brother Jack was born in Newberry County on July 15, 1927 to the late Jack Cleveland Wix and Corrie Darcus Brock Wix. Their grandparents were the late Frank and Sally Crocker Wix and Joseph and Sallie Willingham Brock, all of Union, SC. Sara was one of 15 children born to Jack & Corrie Wix. She was predeceased by 9 brothers, 3 sisters and one great grandson, David Neel Griffin, Jr.: Jack Dewey Wix, Berry (Bo) Wix, Johnny Thomas Wix, Willie Newton Wix, Lewis Manuel Wix, Herman Cleveland Wix, Veston Ray Wix, Lee Roy Wix, Henry Eddie Wix. Mary Belle (Wix) Moates, Lelia Theopal (Wix) Wilson, and Laura Eloise (Wix) Foster. After moving from Moncks Corner in 1959, Sara and her daughter Lana made their home in Barnwell, SC. She first retired from Milliken where she spent many years in the spinning department and then after remarrying, she spent many years as a cook for Edisto Schools in Orangeburg county where she retired a second time. She always loved to work with her hands and she especially enjoyed the children in the Edisto schools at lunchtime. Sara was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed greatly. She leaves behind her only daughter Lana (Hyrne) Griffin and son-in-law, John Neel Griffin of the home; her 2 Grandchildren: Colonel Mike Griffin(Misty) in Misawa, Japan , and Neel Griffin(Kathy) of Aiken, SC. and 4 Great grandchildren John Griffin(Gainsville, GA); Jenna Griffin( Misawa, Japan ); Grace Griffin (Aiken, SC) and Faith Griffin (Aiken, SC), and two sisters, Dorothy (Wix) Eaves of Union, SC, and Lydia (Wix) Campbell of Jonesville, SC , many nieces and nephews that loved and adored her. The family asks that memorials be made to Regency Hospice of Orangeburg, 1890 St. Matthews Rd., Orangeburg, SC 29118 for all the tender love and care they have provided to Sara and Lana during her journey home. Their love will never be forgotten.
