Obituary for Sara Morris Creech Collins

Sara Morris Creech Collins, 92, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, December 4, 2023. Mrs. Collins was born on July 16, 1931 in Blackville, SC. She was the adopted daughter of the late Milton Morris and Carnell Hiers Morris. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Raymond Creech, to whom she was married for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Walker Collins, to whom she was married for over 10 years.

Sara was raised in Olar, SC where she graduated Olar High School. After graduating, she worked for Southern Bell as a telephone operator in Columbia, SC. She also worked as an operator for the Barnwell Zipper Plant. She met and married her first husband, Arthur Raymond Creech, who was a retired Air Force Master Sergeant who served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. As a military wife, Sara traveled overseas to Germany, France and back to the USA to settle in Olar, SC. She loved Olar, Memorial Baptist Church, the Lord Jesus Christ, and everything she did was in some way a reflection of that devotion whether as a veteran’s wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, and friend. Her family was very important to her as exhibited by her devotion as a loving wife, nurturing mother, and doting grandmother. She was an avid gardener, who loved flowers, canning, preserving, and sharing the bounty of her “green thumb.” She was a lifelong member of Memorial Baptist Church in Olar where she served as WMU Director, Junior Sunday School Teacher, the Church Social & Bereavement Committee, and a faithful Choir member. She was known for making Christmas fruit baskets for Homebound members. “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies” (Proverbs 31:10).

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10th at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev Charles Mosier and Rev Kenneth Catoe officiating. Burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memorial Baptist Church, 2607 Memorial Church Road, Olar, SC 29843 or to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 86, Williston, SC 29853.

Survivors include her daughters, Dianne (late Jimmy) Brant of Ehrhardt, SC, and Linda (late Walter) Fowke of Barnwell, SC; son Stanley (Christine) Creech of Barnwell, SC; grandchildren, Scott (Carlie) Brant, Raymond (Tina) Creech, Kay (Stephen) Corder, Kimberly (Marty) Space, Angela Fowke, and Stacey (Luke) Catoe; great-grandchildren, Michale Creech, Nathan Simmons, McKynzie Still, Andrew Haynes, Hunter Brant, Cody Hiott, Tres Corder, Cooper Catoe, O’Neil Catoe, and Brooks Space; great great-grandchildren, Waylon Bell and Lane Cope; Niece, Sondra (Robert) Hogan; and Nephew, Kenny Black. She was predeceased by her step-brother, Gerald Morris, and step-sister, Gerail Dean Morris Black.

The family of Sara Collins would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to Trinity Hospice for all the care their staff rendered during her time at home under hospice care.
