Obituary for Selwyn "Buddie" Rountree Thompson, Jr.
Selwyn Rountree “Buddie” Thompson Jr. 75, passed away on Wednesday Sept 4, 2019 at the Providence Hospital surrounded by his family.
Buddie was born in Augusta Ga on January 9, 1945 and was a son of the late Selwyn R. Thompson Sr. and Helen Scott Thompson. He was a retired School Administrator with 30 plus years’ service. He was a member of Barnwell First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Baptist Brotherhood Director. He was a 1974 graduate of The Citadel. He served in the US Army as a Staff Sgt in Vietnam. He served in the Experimental Long Range Reconnaissance Group which led to the formation of Special Ops Teams for the US Army. He received three Bronze Stars with device, the Purple Heart and the Airmen’ Medal for Heroism.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the Barnwell First Baptist Church with Rev. Bart Kelley and Dr. Steve Burnette officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church. Burial will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10 am at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia SC. with full military honors.
Surviving are his loving wife, Ann Hill Thompson of Barnwell; son, Christopher (Laura) Thompson and their daughter Harper of Riverview Fl; daughter Amanda (Josh) Meyers and their daughter Madison of Greenwood SC and brother, Scotty Thompson of Greenville SC
