William Glenn Riddle, Jr., aged 85, passed away at his residence on January 14, 2025, in Barnwell, South Carolina. Born on December 30, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was a cherished figure known for his humor, often tinged with a touch of sarcasm, and his deep love for his family.
Bill, or “Bo” as he was affectionately known, graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1958 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management from Auburn University in 1972. His commitment to service was evident through his tenure with the United States Marine Corps and Reserves, where he served for 7 1/2 years, demonstrating dedication and resilience while serving as a helicopter pilot stationed in Vietnam.
Professionally, Bill made significant contributions as a plant controller at Milliken, working in various locations including Manchester and Lavonia, Georgia, and finally in Barnwell, South Carolina, before retiring in 2000.
Bill was a man of many interests, including playing card and board games, fishing, golf, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. These activities reflected his playful spirit and love for engaging with both nature and those closest to him.
He leaves behind a loving family: his son, William Keith Riddle (Nicole); daughter, Laura Leigh Riddle Aplin (Greg); and grandchildren, Jay Aplin, Emily Aplin, Waverly Riddle, and Lincoln Riddle. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Glenn Riddle, Sr. and Lucy Jones Aldridge Riddle, and his sister, Cassandra (Ed) Brobston.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date, with arrangements managed by Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell, South Carolina. Bill’s life was one of profound impact and heartfelt moments, deeply felt by all who knew him.
